Resin bound driveways in Crawley
A smooth, modern finish, with drainage that needs extra thought on clay.
Resin bound driveways mix stone with clear resin and trowel it over a porous base. The surface lets water through, which is why resin is often chosen to meet front garden rules without channel drains.
Drainage on Crawley clay. Heavy clay soils are common across much of Crawley, and water soaks away through clay slowly. A soakaway that works on sandy ground may struggle here, so ask your installer how they will deal with rainwater, and whether they have tested how well your ground drains.
Resin in Crawley
- On clay, water can pass through the resin but then sit in the base. A good installer will check drainage and may add a sub-base drain or soakaway
- Many 1950s to 1970s new town drives are cracked concrete that needs breaking out first
- Choose a UV stable resin so light colours do not discolour
Pros and cons
- No loose stones, little maintenance
- Lots of colour choices
- Quality depends heavily on the installer

Common questions
Can resin go over my old concrete drive?
Only as resin bonded or over a sound base, and then it is not permeable. Many Crawley drives are better broken out and relaid.
What goes wrong with cheap resin?
Thin layers, the wrong resin and poor bases lead to cracking and loose stones within a few years.
